This set for burning incense was given to the former Princess Kaenomiya Tomoko (1830–84) by the Shogun Tokugawa Iemochi (1846–66), who himself would marry an imperial princess. Tomoko was married to the abbot of Higashi Hongan-ji Temple. The Hiromis bought this from the temple’s auction in 1927.
