This is a masterwork of the monk-painter Kenkō Shōkei, active in Kamakura during the civil wars of the sixteenth century. According to the inscription by Kamakura Gozan Zen priest Gyokuin Eiyo, the title comes from a poem on the Chinese mountain Mt. Tai by poet Du Fu. Perhaps the soaring peaks in the foreground represent Mt. Tai.
