Nakajima Sōin was a Confucian scholar from Kyoto excelling at poetry and calligraphy. The Chinese verses on this pair of folding screens describe the view seen from when the literati travelled by boat down the Yodogawa river from Fushimi in Kyoto to Osaka in the second month of 1843.
