Overview

Pine Tree (Finger Painting)

Museum No.
AK1631

This oversized scroll from the late Qianlong era of the Qing dynasty was painted without a brush. Instead, the Shanghai artist Zhu Qiao dipped his fingers and fingernails into ink to create a dynamic, writhing pine tree that almost seems alive, like a giant dragon.
