These fittings of lacquered and gilded leather with hairline embossing imitate the techniques and motifs of metalwork fittings. They seem originally to have been part of a set of leather fittings used on the shrine (zushi) enclosing an important Kichijōten sculpture from Jōruri-ji Temple, in Kizugawa, Kyoto.
