Dragons and Clouds

Museum No.
AK1623
雲龍図 Image

Pairs of ascending and descending dragons were common painting themes; however, the depiction of the right-hand dragon seemingly wrapped around bamboo is unusual. Kano Einō (1634–1700) succeeded his father Sanraku as third generation head of the Kano school of painters in Kyoto. The rocks and waves show Sanraku’s influence.
