This is an unusual set of five female musician dolls. The five musicians are normally male, and depict the musicians of the Noh theater. Occasionally, however, there are female musician dolls such as these playing instruments of classical Gagaku court music ensembles. These dolls were originally part of a set of hina display with a palace.
