These ewers of lacquered wood imitate the porcelain and metal vessels used for aromatic oils in the Islamic world; however, the landscapes with pavilions evoke a European vision of the Orient. Marie Antoinette collected similar Japanese ewers, to which she added Parisian metal fittings. They are now kept in the Louvre.
