This work bears three waka, literally, "Japanese poems," composed by Masanariô (1488-1560) of the Shirakawa family, which had held the position of jingihaku ("commissioner of Shintô ceremonies") ever since the late Heian period (794-1185). Each poem is arranged in two lines on such themes as rain, the moon, etc. Written in relatively flowing brushstrokes, the poems are more or less formal in style of composition.
