This kimono is replete with references to the Noh play “Kogō”, which is based on the classic The Tale of Heike. A garden gate, an eboshi hat, a whip and a bit adorn the hem of the robe. The right sleeve shows a koto instrument in a palace interior. The story is about Emperor Takakura yearning for Lady Kogō, who was driven into hiding in Sagano.
