This flat spearhead was made in the northern region of Kyûshû Island in the late Yayoi period (ca. 400 B.C.-ca. A.D.250), and preserved at a shrine in Uwa-chô, Ehime Prefecture. If this is confirmed to be one of the five-sometimes said to be six, or eight-copper spearheads excavated during the Kanbun era (1661-73) from the Hisaeda-ôkubodai area, also in Ehime Prefecture, it will prove extremely important as historical evidence relative to the eastern limit of power of northern Kyûshû, whose people tried to move into the Setouchi region. Still evident are the remains of gold leaf, which was applied after excavation.
