This work, originally intended to be a hanging mirror, has two holes to pass a string through. Hanging mirrors of this size were often made as offerings to temples and shrines. This piece also was likely made for a temple, since the inscription indicates that a monk was involved in its production. Arranging a design to one side of the work was a popular method for mirrors and other artifacts in the last half of the 17th century.
