Chinese hermits are depicted in this pair of six-fold screens. Scratches on the top corners of both screens suggest that this work used to bear a signature and seal. The painting style tells us, however, that the artist is without a doubt Unkoku Tôgan (1547-1618) of the Momoyama period (1573-1615). The signature and seal must have been erased at some point for a particular reason.
