Western Seaside

Museum No.
AK886

The artist of this work, Doi Yûrin was a painter from Nagasaki who passed away in 1811 (Bunka 8) when he was yet around age 30 . It is known from the postscript that this folding screen was made in 1810 (Bunka 7). Although it had been believed that this work was produced by combining a number of imported copper-plate prints, it was proved recently by Nakagawa Hisatada, who was the Director of Kyoto National Museum at the time, that the work was reproduced in ink painting based on one piece of copper-plate print.
