Closely resembling in form the medicine jar of the Imperial Repository Shoso-in, the urn contained cremated remains. Both the lid and the body are spotted with the 'three-color glazes' of white, green, and brown. The urn, which was unearthed in 1963 encased within a soapstone container, is representative of the three-color-glazed pottery of the Nara Period.
