This Christian altar (J., seigan) is decorated with camellias, birds, and grapevine arabesques in makie and mother-of-pearl inlay. Inside the altar, the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost) is painted in oil. Recent research suggests that the painting style resembles that of artists in 18th-century Mexico. The blank altar was probably exported and the design completed there.
