This jar bears a scene from the Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms (J., Sangokushi engi, Ch., Sanguoyanyi), in which Cao Cao meets Guan Yu for the first time. The depiction of clouds is similar to undôde, porcelain with designs in underglaze blue. The style of this work suggests that it was produced sometime during the Zhengtong and Tianshun eras (1436-64).
