This fresh-water container (J., mizusashi), modeled on the Southeast Asian ware known as nanban, was made by Takahashi Dôhachi the Second, who was active during the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate (1615-1868). It was probably modeled on the nanban fresh-water jar housed at Myôhô-in Temple in Kyoto.
