This is Chinese ode offered to the grave of Kusunoki Masashige (?-1336) at Minatogawa Shrine in Hyôgo Prefecture. Masashige's eventful life is expressed in the ode. Rai Sanyô (1780-1832) first composed two sets of poems with eight seven-character lines (Ch., qili, J., shichiritsu) in 1796 (Kansei 9) at the age of 18. He later revised them, changing them to ancient-style poems with seven-character lines (Ch., gushi, J., koshi). Sanyô visited the grave again in 1824 and offered this ode after once more refining the poems.
