This is an unusual drawing of a multi-headed, multi-armed, and multi-legged Fudo. Fudo is usually depicted with one face, two arms, and two legs. Images similar to this variant Fudo iconography can be seen in collections of Fudo drawings. This type of Fudo is believed to have been originated by the Buddhist painter, Gencho, who was active in the late tenth century. The excellent brushwork and forceful expression of the flames are magnificent.
