This work portrays scenes from the Lotus Sutra in twenty-eight chapters. Originally, thought to have been a larger volume, only three scenes (four illustrations and three sections of text) are now extant. The scroll here begins with the opening statement from the "Entrustment" (Zokuruihon) chapter with a scene of the Buddha Sakyamuni stroking the head of a bodhisattva, who has come to hear him teach at Vulture Peak, and entrusting him with the essence of the Lotus Sutra.
