Yujô was the 37th abbot of the Onjô-ji Enman-in Temple in Shiga Prefecture. Since his youth, he had been interested in scientific rationalism, and it is known that he gave support to Maruyama Ôkyo (1732-95) when Ôkyo was practicing asceticism. The work bears a Japanese poem (J., waka).
