This misty scene is a “Mi dot landscape,” with moist brushwork imitating the Song masters Mi Fu (1051–1107) and Mi Youren (1074–1151). The artist was a Qing literatus who travelled to Meiji Japan. He painted this in Kurashiki, Okayama, for a friend of wealthy local salt producers there.
