Hine Taizan (1811-69) was born in Osaka. It is known that he was strongly influenced by Tetsuô (1799-1871), although he never studied under him, but in fact studied under Nukina Kaioku (1788-1863). Taizan's fine brushwork and deliberate brushstrokes are well demonstrated in this work, his greatest strengths being in the landscape painting genre.
