The artist Kanô Ujinobu (1675-1724), generally known as Eishuku, was the grandson of Yasunobu (1613-85), the founder of the Kanô sub-school of Nakabashi. The portrait depicts Ji Zhang, a man from around the second century C. E., who is revered as the founder of Chinese medicine.
