Wang Yuanqi (1642-1715; alias, Maojing; pseudonym, Lutai) was the grandson of Wang Shimin, and a traditional Qing dynasty painter of lanscapes representing the Four Wangs. This painting, which emulates the classical style of the four great Yuan painters (Huang Gongwang, Wu Zhen, Ni Zan, and Wang Meng) is rich with a rhythmic movement achieved by the sweeping dry brushstrokes, and though employing mainly black ink, possesses a bright and rich coloration characteristic of his paintings.
