Wang Jian (1598-1677), together with Wang Shiming (1592-1680), was counted as one of the Six Masters of the early-Qing dynasty (1644-1911) who were leaders of the orthodox lineage. As he was greatly influenced by Juran (active 960-995), the texture of the ink is very moist and the perspective is well-organized. The design imitates a work by Huan Gongwang (1269-1354) of the Yuan dynasty (1277-1368). This is a very powerful work, the style of which is different from the mature painting style of Wang Jian in his later years.
