As China was an agrarian society, a number of paintings on the labor and customs of farmers were produced in order to encourage farming. This work, which shows the characteristics of the old-style paintings very well, illustrates the nervous atmosphere of a bridal party as it arrives in front of the gate of the family into which the bride is to marry. The signature and seal by Xigu Li Tang (Litang, ca.1070-ca.1150) were added later.
