This pictorial diagram illustrates the origins of Onsen-ji Temple in Arima, Hyôgo Prefecture. The temple has been famous for its curative hot-springs since ancient times. Documents of the last half of the 15th century, such as Gaun hikenroku and Shinchokeiki, record episodes of monks explaining the origins of the temple with the pictures to visitors to the hot spring for one hundred sen. This work was probably used for such events.
