According to Gakô binran (E., Handbook of Painters), the artist of this hanging scroll, Kanô Ichiunm, was a disciple of Kanô Eitoku (1543-90) and lived in Hizen Nagasaki in the Kyushu region. The name "Shinzan Ichiun Juan," listed in a 1603 petition for the canonization of 26 Japanese martyrs that is presently kept in Spain, is believed to refer to Eitoku.
