The clematis arabesque motif covers the shining hite satin in silver-leaf imprint, white the combined design of flowering plants and cypess-strip fans is added to the back, sleeves, and waist in embroidery. Surihaku, No costume for a female role, usually has no embroidered designs, but some elaborately prepared specimens like this exist. Said to have belonged to the Ikeda family of Bizen Province (today's Okayama Prefecture), this garment shares the pretty design motifs and colors in common with the large number of Noh costumes. It especially shares the characteristics of the Surihaku of the late Edo Period, in the collection of the same family. The piece remains today in an excellent state of preservation.
