Mizuhiki are the red and white twisted paper ribbons used on ritual gifts. Some Gosho dolls have painted depictions of mizuhiki ribbons tied to their forelocks. Gosho dolls are believed to have been used as gifts from courtiers for rituals relating to children. Some scholars speculate that the mizuhiki presentation ribbons were added to emphasize their roles as gifts.
