According to the foreword by Kobayashi Nobunao, this two-volume album contains reference samples collected from textiles of various types produced in Nishijin, the weaving district of Kyoto. Another comment at the beginning reads, "Made by Hayashi Nobuharu of the Imperial Capital," suggesting that the album was produced by him. The relationship between Kobayashi Nobunao and Hayashi Nobuharu is unclear, but the volumes are invaluable as a resource on the diverse types of textiles woven in Nishijin at the beginning of the Meiji period (1868-1912). The albums were donated by Kyoto Prefecture in 1891 (Meiji 24).
