A type of dining stand, this tray table (J., kakeban) has legs attached to the tray, which are shaped wider in the middle and made in the kôzama ("ornamental molding") style. The entire body is lacquered in black and the design known as katamigawari ("differing in halves") has been employed. One half of the table is decorated with pine trees, bamboo, and flowing water on pear-skin ground, while the other half differs in that it has chrysanthemums and paulownias. The techniques used here are basic Kôdaiji makie techniques, which include hiramakie ("flat makie"), enashiji ("pictorial pear-skin lacquer"), kakiwari ("line dividing"), harigaki ("needle engraving"), and tsukegaki ("lacquer drawing").
