Among pottery produced during the medieval period (13th-16th centuries) by kilns in the Seto region in present-day Aichi Prefecture, those coated with glaze are called Koseto. Koseto (literally, "old Seto") produced during the Kamakura (1185-1333) through the Muromachi (1392-1573) periods can be further divided into three time phases; this work with light glaze and little decoration reflects the characteristics of the first phase.
