Though called "azure," the glaze is actually translucent, only making the blue glaze underneath it visible throughout the body. Porcelain in azure glaze was popularly produced in Korea during the 18th and 19th centuries by the Bunwanriyo kiln, one of the government-sponsored kilns located at Kwangjukun in Kyoungki Province. Ceramics fragment have been excavated in large numbers from kiln ruins in this area.
