Plum blossoms, lotuses, peonies, and chrysanthemums adorn the interior of this plate. The traditional Chinese auspicious motif, known as the "Four Nobles" (J., shikunshi), includes plum, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum. But, here, orchid and bamboo have been replaced by lotus blossom and peony.
