This kind of storage jar with a wide neck and rounded protruding shoulders is known as a ten-thousand-year (wannian) jar: if filled with grain and buried in a tomb, it would supposedly provide long-term sustenance for the deceased. This example has a domed lid with a knob shaped like a Buddhist jewel. Other jars of this type have green or three-color lead glazes.
