Porcelain sutra containers manufactured in China have been excavated from sutra mounds in Kyushu in large numbers. Stylistically, they appear to have been made at kilns in the southern Chinese, but there is no evidence to support this. Moreover, the fact that none have been excavated in China suggests that they may have been made to Japanese order.
