A number of similar jars with applied decoration (J., chôka) of lotus petals have been excavated from the tomb of the Feng family of the Northern Qi dynasty (550-577), located in Shengjing, Hubei Province. These jars are thought to date from the end of the Northern Dynasties period (6th century). The shape of the foot is similar to that of three-color (Ch., sancai) jars of the Tang dynasty (618-907) and is characteristic of products from northern kilns.
