In Tang China (618-907), communications with the west beyond the deserts appeared to have been frequent. A considerable number of camel tomb figurines in three-color (Ch., sancai) ware of the Tang dynasty have come to light. Although it is not the case here, camel tomb figurines often bear riders, representing those in whose tombs they were buried; or they may be accompanied by a separate figurine that represents the deceased.
