White porcelain and blue-and-white porcelain (J., sometsuke) with overglaze enamels of red, blue, and green, produced in private kilns of southern China during the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644) are known in Japan as gosu aka-e. Recent excavations have made it clear that kilns in Fujian Province were among those that produced this ware.
