Colorful examples with overglaze enamels and gilt are known as "brocade style" (J., kinrande). They were produced at Jingdezhen kilns in the 16th century and apparently appealed to the taste of practioners of the tea ceremony in Japan. Quite a few have been handed down in Japanese collections. Ewers of this shape are called the "wine cups of the immortals" and are typical of kinrande vessels.
