According to the inscription by the mid-Ming literati Shao Bao, this work was painted on the occasion of a farewell gathering for a friend from Jiangshan, who was going to Peking. Demarcated by swift brushstrokes, the strength of the brush and the elegance of the calligraphy are stylistically consistent, making it highly possible that this piece was the work of one man.
