Jishô sanjûrokunin utaawase (E., Jishô Poetry Match among Thirty-six Poets) is a poetry collection consisting of 18 rounds of poems composed by 36 poets, including monks and laypersons, from the Jishô (1177-81) and Juei (1182-84) eras. It was probably made in 1179 (Jishô 3). This manuscript written in the angular katakana syllabary is a fragment of the collection, bearing ten poems after Hana (E., Flower), a poem from the third round by Fujiwara Narinori (1135-87). The preface to a complete version of the collection indicates that there, the ten poems were arranged alongside portraits of their composers.
