The poet Yao Yuanzhi (1773-1852) hailed from Tongchen (Anhui Province), China. He was known by the sobriquet (Ch., zi) Boang as well as by his pseudonyms (Ch., hao) Jianqing, Wubuweng, and Zhuye Tingshen. In Jiaqing 10 (1805), he passed the civil service examination. He was well versed in epigraphy and especially skilled in the official or clerical script (Ch., lishu; J., reisho).
