Jiang Shiquan (1725-84) was born in Qiansha (Jiangxi Province), China and went by the sobriquets (Ch., zi) Xinyu, Dingfu, and Tiaosheng. In Qianlong 22 (1757), he passed the civil service examination. He excelled in poetry and was known as one of the three great writers of the Qianlong period (1736-96), the others being Zhao Yi (1727-1814) and Yuan Mei (1716-98). His calligraphic style here is playful yet refined.
