Jinshi (1613-75), whose lay name was Jin Bao and sobriquet, Daoyin, was a native of Renhe, China. He became a jinshi ("successful candidate of the national civil service examination held at the imperial capital") in 1640 (Chongzhen 13). He entered the priesthood after the fall of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and referred to himself as Maoping Naceng and Jieshan Yena. He was well versed in poetry composition and excelled in calligraphy.
