This is an early manuscript of Shôdanchiyô (E., A Woodcutter's Discussion on Politics), wherein Ichijô Kanera (1402-81) explained for Ashikaga Yoshihisa (1465-89) the secrets of politics. It was the seventh month of 1480 (Bunmei 12) when Kanera compiled Shôdanchiyô at Yoshihisa's request. The work contains a colophon written in the hand of Yoshihisa in 1481 (Bunmei 13), which makes it one of the earliest surviving manuscripts of Shôdanchiyô. An additional paper is attached to the colophon to record that Yoshihisa gave this book to his younger brother, Sanbôin Gikaku, in the seventh month of 1482 (Bunmei 14).
