These are linked verses (J., renga) composed at a poetry gathering hosted by Daikakuji Sonshin in the fifth month of 1570 (Genki 1). People from various fields, for example, the renga poets Satomura Jôha (1524-1602) and Satomura Shôshitsu, and the tea master Tsuji Gensai, attended the gathering. The work is noteworthy in that it is a record of "social salons" popularly held in Kyoto around this time, at which poems were announced and art works were shown.
